Tom Bruett is a playwright, lyricist and bookwriter. His work has been produced from New York to San Francisco. He is currently appointed as the FutureWorks Fellow at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, CA. At TheatreWorks, he contributes with new work development, casting and company management.
As a playwright, Tom has written Intelligent Men Ask for Directions, Calm or Bright and the short plays Fear Sells, Lox Atop the Lincoln Tunnel and False Advertisement. He has written the book and lyrics for All Happy Housewives Sleep with the Milkman, American Family, Snowed In, Greetings From Coco-Boco and Just Listed. (All with music by David Dabbon).
Tom’s work has been produced at The Player’s Theatre, NJ Rep, ReGroup Theatre, the Mergatroyd Festival, PianoFight, Play Café and The Playwrights' Center of San Francisco, among others. He currently serves as Featured Writer for the Shortened Attention Span Festival in New York.
As an actor, Tom toured the country with Irving Berlin’s I Love a Piano. He has also worked regionally at Arkansas Rep, Springer Opera House, Ivoryton Playhouse, and The New London Barn Playhouse.
Tom earned his BFA from the Hartt School, where he studied musical theatre and met composing partner, David Dabbon. He is an active member of the Playwrights’ Center of San Francisco, where he serves as producer for their Developmental Reading Series. He is also a member of the Will Dunne Workshop.
